LOLA Wallace photography
Born in Londons’ East End, Lola Wallace has traversed the globe to produce carefully observed photographic essays.
Her projects range from recording the lives of legendary American drag queens to intimate portraits of fighters and dancers, to working with international NGO’s to raise awareness, funds and resources to uplift and empower women and girls in India.
At the heart of Lolas’ photos is a sensitivity to human stories, a desire to create empathy between the viewer and subject. Whether the portrait captures the collective power of a community or the essence of an individual, Lolas’ desire is authenticity, an unfiltered window into the worlds and lives of others.
By combining and contrasting classical fine art lighting with an irreverent eye for pose and location, and minimizing her presence as “photographer”, Lolas’ portraits break the conventions of traditional studio sessions to create unique reflections on lives and cultures.
